Furan Resin: Applications and Recent Export Price Trend

26 - Oct - 2026

Furan resin is a thermosetting polymer famous for high heat resistance, acid corrosion resistance and excellent dimensional stability. Its dominant application is as a no-bake binder for foundry sand molds and cores, widely used to produce castings for automotive parts, machinery, wind power hubs and heavy engineering equipment. Besides casting, it serves anti-corrosion projects, chemical-resistant flooring, adhesives and composite linings in wastewater and fertilizer plants. Foundry demand remains the major consumption driver, as global metal casting factories prefer furan systems for high-precision iron and steel castings.

Recently, China’s furan resin export prices experienced volatile movement. In the early stage, prices were supported by raw material cost fluctuations and steady overseas demand from Southeast Asia, India and Turkey. Later, the market saw a moderate downward correction. The main reasons included improved domestic operating rates and sufficient product supply. Meanwhile, global downstream foundries adopted hand-to-mouth purchasing instead of bulk stockpiling, which limited further price rises. Export volumes kept stable, with Chinese suppliers maintaining competitiveness in Asia and Latin American markets.

Looking forward, furan resin prices will still be governed by furfural and furfuryl alcohol raw material costs, plus overseas casting activity. Shipping costs and destination import policies also bring uncertainties. Short-term prices are likely to operate in a narrow range. Exporters need to monitor end-user procurement sentiment and adjust quotations flexibly to balance sales volume and profit margins amid the subdued global manufacturing environment.
